Description:The final meeting of Stafford Poor Law Union Board of Guardians pictured outside Stafford Workhouse. The Chairman, George Horne, is seated 7th from left on the front row.

The Stafford Union Workhouse was built on Marston Road in 1838. After 1930 it became Stafford Public Assistance Institution. From 1948, with the advent of the National Health Service, the building was used as an old people's home and as the Fernleigh Hospital. It was demolished in 1971.
