Description:This window display decorated for the Christmas shopping period was taken in the Princes Street Precinct near to Crabbery Street, Stafford.

The scene shows stylised Christmas trees, which were made by using silver backed thin card circles pinned onto triangular shapes cut from polystyrene and in order to catch the eye of passing shoppers the backgrounds of the alternate windows were hung with silver slashed curtains which sparkled in the light from the spot lights.

On the left the display shows household items including boxed towels, bedding and gifts and on the right there is lingerie and sleepwear. The Co-op’s windows were often photographed at night for the most dramatic effect, however, it is also possible to see reflected on the glass the signs and lights of some of the shops directly opposite.

The Display Manager was Mr Ray Fowler.

The Co-op Department Store closed on Friday 26 April 2013. The Express and Star published a front page article confirming that the 55,000 sq. ft. store was closing due to stiff competition from online retailers, with the loss of 73 jobs.
