Description:A silhouette of Rev. Samuel Langley, Rector of Checkley between 1791 and 1839. He succeeded his father, also Samuel Langley, who was Rector from 1744 to 1790. His grandfather, another Samuel Langley, had been Rector at Checkley between 1713 and 1738. Rev Samuel Langley B.A., M.A. (1755-1839) was Rector of Checkley Parish for 49 years and died 10th February 1839 aged 84. He was succeeded as Rector of Checkley Parish by Rev William Hutchinson. The silhouette which hangs on the wall in the vestry of St Mary and All Saints' Parish Church is a copy of the original held by a niece of the Rev. Samuel Langley who lived with his family in the Old Rectory beside the River Tean. It was renamed Rectory Farm when it ceased being the Rectory in about 1839. Original information on origin of silhouette from Mrs Ivy Chapman, nee Howe, Blythe Bridge.
