Description:Carl and Theo, two of the Belgian refugees billeted in Cheddleton during the First World War, pictured outside Mr and Mrs Parnell's summer house on School Lane in Cheddleton. John James Parnell was the master at Cheddleton School. The boys lived with the Proffit family in Fold Terrace, Cheddleton.

Following the German invasion of Belgium during the First World War, refugees became a familiar sight in towns and villages across the country.
