Description:A studio portrait of Donald David Sutton, Gunner 1502675, 16 Battery, 6th Anti Aircraft Regiment Royal Artillery. He was the son of William and Henry Mary Ellen Sutton and lived with his family at Fold Terrace, Cheddleton. His father was a paper maker at Brittain's paper mill. Donald Sutton joined the army in 1939 and survived the evacuation of Dunkirk. He was killed at the age of 22 in an accident in a quarry in Southampton whilst digging sand for gun emplacement sandbags on 23rd August 1940. As a civilian, Donald had worked for Rutter’s newsagents and Lymer’s butchers in Cheddleton.
