Description:Joseph Beech's smithy at the junction of Beffcote Road and Quarry Lane, Gnosall.

In this photograph members of the Beech family along with employees are gathered outside the Smithy for the photographer. Their names are believed to be (from left to right) Jim Beech (Joseph's brother); Mr Scott; Joseph Beech; Joseph's son Frank Thomas holding his brother John Lewis; Mary Rhodes, Joseph's mother-in-law; her son Harry Rhodes; her daughter Sarah Ann Beech, wife of Joseph, holding their daughter Beatrice Alice.

Around the time of this photograph several other blacksmiths also worked in the Gnosall area.

In the background just beyond the horse and cart but out of sight of the camera, there is a canal bridge over the Shropshire Union Canal. On the left is a glimpse of the Boat Inn public house.
