Description:The manor of Oakley was held from about the 13th century by the Chetwode family, whose seat was the Chetwode Manor estate in Buckinghamshire. A manor house existed at Oakley from the 16th century but the present Oakley Hall was built by John Chetwode in 1710. It remained the seat of the Chetwode family until the family sold it in 1919.
This view from the south is from the catalogue for the sale of the Oakley Estate which took place in Market Drayton on 30 September 1919. It shows the original curved pediment above the entrance door which was replaced with a simpler one not long after this phortograph was taken.
