Description:A shop assistant serving a customer at the bacon counter in Pakeman & Co.'s grocers and provisions shop, Market Place, Uttoxeter. The advertisement for the upstairs restaurant can be seen in the window and a bus is waiting at the bus stop outside. Pakeman's occupied this shop from at least 1896 and in around 1910 rebuilt the premises in a Mock Tudor style. The shop closed in about 1960 and was divided into an off licence (owned successively by Foster's, Winklate and Threshers) and the Trienna restaurant on the first floor with a street entrance on the right hand side. The right hand side of the ground floor was for many years occupied by Shaw's music shop. It is now (January 2021) Wood and Home.
