Description:Students and staff pictured at Longton High School in September 1956. The headmaster was Mr M.V. Gregory.

The school was founded as Longton Free School in 1760 with an endowment from John Bourne. In 1885 a new school, now named Longton High School, was built on Trentham Road and opened in 1885. In 1947 the school moved again to a new site on Sandon Road, Meir. In 1963, the school moved again, this time from Sandon Road in Meir to a site in Box Lane. The Sandon Road site became Sandon High School, now (August 2020) Sandon Meridian Academy. Longton High closed in 2010.
