Description:These plans show Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre and how the buildings have changed use over the 1970s, 80s and 90s. The plans were probably traced from a large scale ordnance survey map by hand and have the names of individual businesses written on.

The map that you can see here is the only one of the series that is not dated. We can see the Henry White's stores on the Ironmarket and the High Street; which was a well established business throughout the early-mid 20th century. The buildings are shown as vacant on the 1980 plan so we know that this plan is prior to 1980.

Look carefully at the plan you will find the Globe Cafe, John Menzies books and stationery, and Foster's menswear.
