Description:Following a nine-month tour of duty in Afghanistan, members of the 3rd Battalion, The Mercian Regiment (3Mercian), formerly the Staffords, are pictured on their final march through Stafford town centre. The Regiment will merge with two other Battalions to form the Mercian Regiment (Cheshire, Worcesters and Foresters and the Staffords). There were similar parades around the region in Burton on Trent, Cannock, Newcastle under Lyme, Stoke on Trent, Tamworth, Walsall, Wolverhampton and finally on Saturday 28 June 2014, in Lichfield with a special ceremony at Lichfield Cathedral, followed by a walk to the Kings Head public house, where the Staffordshire Regiment was originally formed in 1705.
