Description:Sam Hemmingfield pictured in his Durham Light Infantry uniform, during the First World War, service number 80867.

Sam was promoted to sergeant and posted to the Cannock Chase Training Camps after service in France, where he was awarded the military medal. He met his future wife, a Hednesford girl, while serving at the camp. After the war they married and they returned to live in Sam's home county of Yorkshire.
