Description:A set of apothecary's weights stored in a round cardboard pill box from Luther Wilson, 28 Brock Street, Bath. There are containing 16 brass weights in varying sizes. They were used with a set of scales to accurately weigh medicines and drugs.
The apothecary's system of weights divides a pound into 12 ounces, an ounce into 8 drachms, and a drachm into 3 scruples or 60 grains.
From the Staffordshire County Museum collection. Formerly part of the collection of Mr. Ewart Jones of Newbridge Pharmacy, Tettenhall Road, Wolverhampton, where he worked from the late 1950s until the mid 1980s.
