Description:The Market Square was laid out with flower beds, trees and seating in 1953 to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. In 1992, as part of the pedestrianisation of the town centre, the bus shelter was removed and the square was paved.

The timber framed building next to Boots was Averil's Old Shop. Dating from 1475, it had been a chemist's since 1786. It was demolished in 1961.
