Description:Hangingstone Rock is a gritstone outcrop just north of Swythamley Hall. Following the felling of surrounding trees in the 1940s it is now a prominent landmark on the ridge which carries on north-west from the Roaches towards Danebridge.

There are two plaques set into the rock. On the west side is a plaque commemorating a dog belonging to Sir Philip Lancaster Brocklehurst (1827-1904) of Swythamley Hall. On the south side is a brass plaque commemorating Lt. Col. Henry Courtney Brocklehurst (1888-1942).
