Description:Year 2 group pictured in a classroom at Rugeley Church of England School. This photograph has been copied from an original owned by Mrs Wendy Holland (nee Brass) who is the girl on the back-to-back desks at the front left. Unfortunately, the two boys facing the back have not had their faces preserved for posterity! The children are believed to be aged 6 and 7.

The school was located in Church Street, Rugeley. Built and endowed by Harriet, Baroness de la Zouche (the wife of the Hon. Robert Curzon of Hagley Hall, Rugeley) in 1826 as a National School for Girls. In 1913 it became a mixed infants with the older girls being transferred to Talbot Street school. It closed as a school in 1961 the building then being used a a furniture store by the education department and as a youth club. The premises had reverted to the ownership of the Church of England by 1969 when it was to be sold by auction. It has since been demolished and replaced with housing.

This photograph was published by Scholastic Souvenir Co. Ltd., Blackpool.
