Description:Blowing the trumpet is Anne Kingshot who was chosen as “Miss Dorman’s” at a dance organised by the British Legion’s Pageant Committee at the Borough Hall. Also in the picture are Band Leader Ken Rattenbury, who was one of the judges, and Joyce Withington, who was selected as “Miss Lotus”. Dancing was to the music by Ken Rattenbury’s orchestra, and his vocalist, Miss Pat Marian, who made the selection of “Miss Dorman’s”. “Miss Lotus” was chosen by the secretary and a director of Messrs, Dorman’s, Mr G S Tucker and Dorman’s personnel officer Mr J Hill, along with Mrs Tucker and Mrs Hill. These two contenders for the Stafford Pageant title were 16 year old Miss Anne Kingshot of 27a Walton Way. Stone, who was chosen as “Miss Dorman’s”. Anne, who was employed in Dorman’s Service department, was persuaded by friends to enter for the “Miss Dorman’s” contest, as she was too shy to enter at first. 17 year old Miss Joyce Withington, of 27 Hawk Road, Holmcroft, Stafford, was selected as “Miss Lotus”. This was Joyce’s first contest for the title of “Miss Lotus” although last year she was one of the contestants for the “Miss Stafford” title. She was employed in the Lotus Limited Warehouse. Both Anne and Joyce will complete next month with other local works and village “Queens” for the Pageant Queen title.
