Description:Postman George Ferneyhough standing outside the Post Office, High Street, Upper Tean. He delivered post to the villages around Tean on his pony and is seen here wearing eye shades.

The 1911 census shows that George was living at Hall Green in Tean, aged 68, and that he was born in Cheshire in 1843. He had been married to his wife Elizabeth, aged 65, for 39 years. Also living with them was his son Archibald Ferneyhough, aged 37, a butcher, who was married to Mary Amelia Ferneyhough, also aged 37.
