Description:Hanley Greyhound Stadium dates from 1928, one of the earliest oval greyhound racing tracks in the United Kingdom, built on the site of an abandoned marl pit. There was another entrance on Sun Street (indeed it was also known as the Sun Street Stadium) and speedway was an important event here. The track closed in 1963 and the site is now part of a business park.

Stoke Speedway was founded at the Sun Street Stadium in 1929. The outbreak of war in 1939 put the sport on hold until 1947 after which the sport thrived, attracting large crowds in the years after the Second World War. After another break between 1954 and 1959, the Potters rode again for a few years until the closure of the Sun Street Stadium in 1963.
