Description:A Staffordshire Fire Brigade firemen's helmet. Early firemen's helmets were made of leather. Brass helmets were adopted in the 1860s but were found to be dangerous when in contact with electrical wiring. The London Fire Brigade adopted cork helmets in 1930 and this type, though modified, continue to be in use. This item is part of the Staffordshire Fire Service collection held within the Staffordshire County Museum collection.
