Description:A portrait of Dr. Robert Plot, based on a painting at the Bodleian Library in Oxford.

Dr. Robert Plot (1640-1696) was an antiquary, naturalist, writer and was the first Keeper of the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. He was also the first Professor of Chemistry at Oxford University. He is best known locally for his 'Natural History of Staffordshire, published in 1686. He had previously researched and published a 'Natural History of Oxfordshire' in 1677.
