Description:This Grade I listed building has been the home of the Mainwaring family (now Cavenagh-Mainwaring) and their direct ancestors for over 900 years.

The earlier timber-framed house was modified and encased in 1676. The re-constructed porch dates from 1842. Its adjacent Grade II* listed stables are late-Elizabethan.

Rowland Mainwaring (1783 -1862) inherited Whitmore in 1832 having originally being 8th in-line to own the property. He was a mid-shipman at the battle of the Nile and was promoted to Rear-Admiral (Retired) in 1855.
