Description:A view of the rear of No. 50 Greengate Street, which shows timber framing and on the lower right there is a roof shortly to be demolished. In the background St. Mary’s Church can be seen rising above the buildings. At the time of the photograph all of the buildings in this scene would soon be flattened. They were adjacent to Brookfield’s shop which stood at No.’s 51 and 52 Greengate Street. In 1965 Bratt & Dyke bought Brookfield’s shop. The company built a new department store on the site before closing in 1973. The building was briefly Court’s furnishers and is now (2025) a branch of MacDonald’s, a fast-food restaurant chain known for its burgers and fries.
