Description:A view of Woolworth's Stafford store which was at 18, Market Square from 1928 to 1962 when it then transferred to larger premises in Gaolgate Street.

Originating in the U.S.A. in 1878 as 'Woolworth's great five cent store', the British division of the Company traded from 1909 to 2009. This timber-framed building is Grade ll listed and was originally a house from around the 15th Century which was re-fronted around 1700.

After Woolworth’s relocated the store had several occupants over the years including Wrygges a clothing shop, River Island and currently (2025) it is a branch of Specsavers Opticians and Audiologists. On the left there is a part view of the Guildhall building which later had the ground-level frontage modified to form an entrance to Hinds Jewellers and also to the Guildhall Shopping Centre. On the right is Jax of Oxford Street, a ladies fashion shop which is currently Holland & Barrett health foods and natural remedies shop.
