Date:1947 - 1950 (c.)

Description:Group of miners on afternoons in working clothes carrying 'keg' or 'bucket' battery powered electric lamps. The two men in the centre are looking at a helmet, as it is thought that all of the miners pictured had just been issued with compulsory helmets. Prior to this time most miners wore flat caps (see picture).

The miner on the far right is Harry Withington. Harry was part of the mines rescue team
