Description:Formerly the Parsonage, Hamstall Ridware Rectory was built in the early 18th century on Blithbury Road. It is Grade II listed and has 19th century extensions.
In August, 1806 the rectory hosted author Jane Austen, her mother and sister Cassandra. They were guests of Jane's first cousin, the Reverend Edward Cooper, vicar of Hamstall Ridware 1799-1833. Unfortunately, she found him rather boring!
In 1945, the rectory was featured in a book called 'Poltergeist Over England' by noted (but controversial) ghost hunter Harry Price, in which he recorded reports of a supposed poltergeist which manifested annually on the same date.
