Description:Edgar Platt standing in the doorway of his men's hairdressers shop at 5, Uttoxeter Road (formally High Street), Longton, Stoke on Trent. Note the metal pole bracket above the shop door which would have held a red and white stripped barber’s pole. Edgar Platt was best remembered as a men’s only hairdresser and shaving parlour. The window display includes Brylcream, razors, and shaving soap, and outside there is a metal Players Please Cigarette hanging sign. By the 1950s, the original stone raised stone doorstep had been replaced with easier to access and easy to clean red rounded-edged bricks.
