Description:Demolition in progress of Dickenson's & Son Ltd. Ironmongers shop which stood at No. 25 Greengate Street and the adjacent No. 24 which had been W. Thomas & Son’s grocery shop. This view was taken looking across Greengate Street towards South Walls corner. The two shops were being demolished by Costains Ltd. and would be replaced by a new building housing a branch of the Co-operative Permanent Building Society, later known as the Nationwide Building Society which remains (2025). On the shop wall a large advert can be seen for Robbialac Coloriser, this was a pioneering paint system where colours were selected from a greater variety of shades than available by the British Standard defined colour range. Customers selected / matched their desired colour from the shade card and were sold a base colour and a tube of the necessary additive pigments to stir in at home.
