Date:1965
Description:This view looks north along Greengate Street from the Bridge Street junction with Mill Bank on the left and South Walls corner on the right. The corner shop on the right is No. 25 Greengate Street occupied by Dickenson’s & Son Ltd. Ironmongers which had previously operated from No. 37, Gaolgate Street in the mid-19th century. At the time of this photograph in 1965, Nos. 24 and 25 would soon be demolished by Costains Ltd. and replaced by a new building housing a branch of the Co-operative Permanent Building Society later known as the Nationwide Building Society which is still in situ. The adjacent building, 23, Greengate Street is currently (2025) occupied as solicitor's office.
