Description:The Gatehouse of Mavesyn Ridware Old Hall viewed from the north during restoration. This Grade I listed, stone and timber-framed building dates from the 14th century. Large timbers in the roof have been tree-ring dated to 1391-92. The ground floor walls are stone and the upper floor was faced with bricks in the late 17th century. It was probably originally used as guest accommodation and the first floor originally had two separate chambers, each with a closet. The Dovecote on the left-hand side of the building is formed from one of the closets and its nesting boxes were unusually constructed using wattle and daub.

Originally built for Sir Robert Mavesyn, it later passed to the Cawarden and Chadwick families. It was later used as a farm barn prior to restoration. The chimney on the extreme left horizon is that of Armitage Sanitary Pottery works.
