Date:1914

Description:Sybil Briscoe of Astage House, Croxton in her bridesmaid’s dress. The Briscoe and Cooke family farmed at Astage House Farm between about 1909 and 1934. It is probable that the wedding would have been that of her cousin, Claude Achille Keats of Blithfield, who married Dorothy Chadderton of Heamies, Eccleshall, at Chebsey in June 1914. Sybil was one of the bridesmaids at the wedding. A newspaper report described the bridesmaid’s dresses as: 'of white satin with a tunic of Limerick lace with pale blue and pink sashes, and [they] wore pale pink hats covered with roses … [she] wore a gold bracelet and carried a bouquet of pink roses’

Sybil Frances Steward Briscoe was born in Denby, Derbyshire on 5 December 1892, the younger daughter of farmer Henry Briscoe and Elizabeth Mary Briscoe (nee Smith). She married William Cooke, a dairy farmer, at St. Paul’s Church, Croxton in July 1919. Sybil died in Brocton, near Stafford on 6 January 1960.
