Description:A view of the Moat House, 133 Newport Road, accessed by the bridge in the foreground over the River Sow, which flows through the nearby Victoria Park.

Formerly a house and currently (2025) used as offices, the Moat House is a Grade II listed building dating from around 1810-1820. It is thought to have previously been known as Holly House. At some time the chimneys have been removed. From around 1897 and possibly until 1907, Mrs S Twigg (Mary/Maria) was the Principal of a Collegiate School for Girls at the Moat House. In 1907 Staffordshire County Council took over the private girls' school and moved it to new and larger premises in The Oval. It became Stafford Girls' High School, with places for 175 girls and accommodation for boarders at the Hough cottage nearby on Lichfield Road. A new wing was added to the school in 1930. In 1963 the High School moved to West Way, Highfields.

On the right in the background old houses can be seen and an old Chapel which became a warehouse in Water Street, later to be demolished.
