Description:This carte de visite studio portrait shows Philip Dale (1832-1917), brazier and ironmonger of 11 Greengate Street, Stafford with his son, Philip Thomas Dale (1865-1953). Philip Dale was born in Gaolgate Street, Stafford in 1833 and took over his father's ironmongery business at 11, Greengate Street ariound 1863. He married Fanny Hickin, daughter of photographer Thomas Hickin on 16 July 1864 at St. George's Church, Birmingham. In his spare time, he was a keen musician and singer, and on his retirement in 1912 went to live at Wolseley Cottage, Colwich. His son Philip T. Dale, pictured here as a boy, took over the family ironmonger's business. Photographer: William J. Lapworth of 10 Gaol Street, Stafford.
