Description:David Brown's grocers and boot dealers stood next to Speedwell Castle at 3 Bargate Street. Pictured are David (born 1867 in Willenhall, died 1950) and his sons Thomas and John William. A typical village general stores, the shop sold everything from cocoa, soap and tea, to shoes, lamps and buckets. Note the laundry dolly pegs next to the barrow.

In the ‘Memories of Brewood’ published by Brewood Historical Society, it is mentioned that David Brown also had a shop in Dean Street next to ‘The Old Nick’ and on the uphill side. There was no shop window, he displayed his buckets and other goods outside, he ran his shop from around 1900 and it was still there in 1924.
