Description:This photograph shows a new Standard ‘Big Nine’ motor car for sale with a price tag of £260.00, in the showroom of the Burton Automobile Co., Ltd., which was the distributing Agent in Burton for Standard cars, the showroom stood on the High Street close to the Market Place.

This two-tone, four-door saloon has what is sometimes known as 'suicide doors', this is due to the rear passenger doors being rear-hinged, which was considered less safe than front-hinged doors. As the doors were rear-hinged, if the vehicle was moving and the rear door opened, the aerodynamic drag could force the door wide open, the passenger would have to lean forward and out of the vehicle to close it. At the time seat belts were not in common use and there was a high risk of passengers falling out of the car and into traffic.

Behind the car there is a sign-post advertising the Burton Automobile Co. in Burton and the Standard Motor Co. Works in Coventry, around 40 miles away. In the background there is a large picture of the factory.
