Date:1910 - 1930 (c.)

Description:The large building on the left with several chimney pots was once used as the police station. Half way down the street on the left is The Royal Oak pub, which was here before the pagoda toilets were built. On the right hand side are tallest and smallest houses in Leek. There are still a number of 'double houses' in the town, two houses built on top of each other. The tallest house is an example of such a building, with one entrance in Mill Street and the other accessible by steps leading from Clerk Bank. The smallest house is very narrow indeed and would have been inhabited by one of Leek's poorest families.
