Description:Exterior of Arthur Dobson's wholesale and retail tobacconist, 37 Greengate Street, Stafford, on the corner with Mill Lane. Arthur Dobson was born in Stockton on Tees in 1865 and started work in a Leeds tobacco factory. After working for a Coventry firm of cigar and tobacco manufacturers, in 1903 he settled in Stafford and opened this tobacconists shop. In 1907 he opened a second, larger, shop at 22, Greengate Street. After his death in 1925 his son Leslie took over the management of the family firm, which by 1954 had three shops and also operated in the wholesale trade. Leslie Dobson was Mayor of Stafford in 1949-1950.

The shop is now (2020) a Katherine House Hospice charity shop.
