Date:1966

Description:The main entrance gateway to William Butlers 1873-74 Brewery which had malting’s, cooperage and stabling.

The Inscriptions on both sides of the arch were modified to read 'M & B SPRINGFIELD BREWERY' sometime after its acquisition by Mitchells and Butlers in 1960. Later brewing ceased and the site closed in 1991. In the background the lorry cab is surmounted with Mitchells & Butlers advertising slogan: 'M & B Marvellous Beer'.

The site was acquired by the University of Wolverhampton in 2014. The gateway still exists (2023) and is the main entrance to the Springfield campus, at the junction of Cambridge Street and Water Street, in the Heath Town ward of Wolverhampton.
