Description:Hextall Farm, also known as Hextall Old Farm, is situated on Hextall Lane, Ranton and is a late 18th century brick house built around a 17th century timber-framed core. To the south of the farm are a moated site and three linked fish-ponds, all now dry, listed as a Scheduled Monument. The moat may date from when the manor was first established by the De Hescall family in the 12th century. It was abandoned in about 1235 but occupied by the Eld family of Seighford Hall during the reign of Elizabeth I.
The farmer at the time this photograph was taken was Charles Lawson Greaves who took over the farm from his father-in-law Mr F. F. Parrott in 1944 (he married Joyce Parrott at Marston in March 1944) and it was still with the Greaves family when the farmhouse was sold in 2001 and the outbuildings converted into residences in 2003.
