Description:The Cross Keys, dates from 1697, and was one of only a handful of brick built buildings contructed in the area around this period. Like the White Hart, Red Lion and Old Star, the Cross Keys was also originally a coaching inn. Towards the end of the eighteenth century Uttoxeter became a major 'coaching' centre, used by passing travellers en route between Derby and Newcastle-under-Lyme, and Manchester and Birmingham. The Cross Keys was also used as a venue for holding public meetings and magistrates court sessions before the Town Hall was built. Bagshaws Estate Agents and Auctioneers occupied the building until November 2003 when the property was sold.
