Description:Forge Cottage and Crown Forge on Watling Street (A5) at the junction with The Avenue at Stretton, near Penkridge. The single story building on the right was the smithy which was still in use in 1987 when the blacksmith and farrier was Des Oakes.
The Brotherton family lived in Forge Cottage until it was sold in 1996. They were blacksmiths at Stretton for at least three generations, the last of which, Sidney Brotherton (1908-2000) made a living at the forge until his retirement making farm gates and fences, and repairing and making agricultural implements and tools.
