Description:The Red Lion Hotel, formerly of Church Street, Stoke-on-Trent, reconstructed at the National Tramway Museum, Crich, Derbyshire. The pub was acquired by Showell’s Brewery of Oldbury in March 1901 and rebuilt with this frontage shortly afterwards. The elaborate tiling advertises Showell’s Stingo (a strong, dark bitter beer), Nut Brown Ale, Amber Bitter and Stout as well as wines and spirits. Showell’s also had a brewery at Copeland Street, Stoke-on-Trent which had opened in 1864.
The Red Lion closed in September 1973 and was dismantled shortly afterwards to make way for the construction of the A500 ‘D’ road. It was acquired by the National Tramway Museum at Crich and stored there until rebuilding began in 1990. The work was finished in Easter 2001.
