The postcard was franked in Stafford in June 1943 and was sent to Miss Olive Clews in Rushall from her friend Kathleen who says: “This is a picture of where we are we are. I will put a cross on the Farm' [on the right]. She says the weather has been sunny and she is getting quite brown. She has been helping to make haystacks for the farmer and been working in the fields thinning out kale - a backbreaking job until you get used it.”
Olive Clews was 17 in 1943 and presumably her friend was of a similar age. Kathleen may have been in the Women’s Land Army as the minimum age was 17 and a half.
