Description:Bottle Lodge, sometimes known as Pepper Pot Lodge and originally called Upper Lodge, Tixall.

The woman standing on the doorstep is thought to be Mrs Ann Statham who was living there at the time of the 1901 Census with her two sons, Thomas and Percy.

This Grade II Listed build dates from around 1575. It stands at the roadside opposite Tixall Farm, where the drive from Tixall Hall crossed the Stafford to Great Haywood road, and could possibly have been used as a toll house. Over the years the building stood empty for several years, later it became a private residence and currently (2026) it is holiday retreat.

Photographed by Arthur Farrington who was a member of the Walsall Photographic Society.
