Description:A postcard view of a narrow boat passing under the 'High Bridge', Woodseaves, in the springtime.
The road bridge (no. 39) over the canal is Grade II Listed and dates from 1822-1823. A strainer arch was soon found to be a necessary addition. The arch was also used as the site for a telegraph pole in 1861 when telegraph lines were run along the entire length of the canal. The telegraph wires were replaced by telephone wires in 1870. The wires were subsequently removed but the pole was left in place.
The postcard was published by Douglas M. Smith, Rowington. It was posted from Tamworth in 1987 to an address in Stevenage.
