Date:1919

Description:Group photograph of Stafford soldiers who were all former prisoners of war, pictured alongside some of the civilian members of the local P.o.W. Benefit Fund, who raised money to send parcels and home comforts during their internment. The photograph appears to have been taken during the winter in a backyard on Gaol Square (where the large traffic island is now situated).

This image taken from a commemorative booklet produced c1920 to record the names of the Stafford men who served in World War 1 and published locally by J & C Mort.

The original booklet was kindly loaned for scanning by Mr Richard Pursehouse.
