Description:The location of this photograph is uncertain, but presumably in the environs of Stafford. The first recruit to be sworn in at Stafford after the Declaration of War (August 1914) was Gunner Y.N.D. Avery, of the Stafford Battery, Royal Field Artillery. He survived the war.

This image taken from a commemorative booklet produced c1920 to record the names of the Stafford men who served in World War 1 and published locally by J & C Mort.

The original booklet was kindly loaned for scanning by Mr Richard Pursehouse.
