Description:A crowd of civilians gathers outside the doors of the Shire Hall during the early years of World War 1 as part of a local recruitment drive. There appears to be a mix of professional and working class men, accompanied by women and children.

Described as 'An Early Recruiting Scene', this image taken from a commemorative booklet produced c1920 to record the names of the Stafford men who served in World War 1 and published locally by J & C Mort.

The original booklet was kindly loaned for scanning by Mr Richard Pursehouse.
