Description:Commemorative booklet produced c1920 to record the names of the Stafford men who served in World War 1 and published locally by J & C Mort.

Dedicated to the 'Mothers of Brave Stafford Lads who fell in the Great War', the booklet lists the men who served alphabetically by surname, giving details of rank, unit and home address in Stafford. Additional information is given where men were wounded, gassed, died on active service or were killed in action. Towards the end of the booklet, the fallen are listen again separately, as are those who were taken Prisoner of War and those who were awarded specific medals.

The introduction explains how the information was gathered through public appeals, including adverts on the local cinema screens (and presumably in the newspapers), as well as with the co-operation of local businesses and local schools.

The original booklet was kindly loaned for scanning by Mr Richard Pursehouse.
