Description:The 'Jubilee Jamboree' anniversary of the founding of the Scouting movement was held at Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire, during 1st August 1957 – 12th August 1957, for 35,000 scouts. Such was the demand; accommodation for an additional 15,000 scouts was required. Beaudesert camp was utilised as satellite camp together with other large campsites at Yorks Wood, Castle Bromwich; Packington Park, Stoneleigh, Weeford Park, Canwell, and Rough Close, Coventry. The year was also the 100th Anniversary of their founder, Robert Baden-Powell's birth.
This Greetings Card commemorates the event where the Scouts were entertained at Camp-Fire Hollow at Beaudesert Camp on Cannock Chase; a natural hollow in the ground which had been terraced to provide seating. The photograph was taken a few hours before the great storm of 5th August 1957 – 6th August 1957. A thunderstorm caused flooding; a thunderbolt hit a tree which brought down power lines cutting off communications and rain penetrated the main food store. Scouts were temporarily evacuated to Chase Terrace School via a local bus company, Harper's of Heath Hayes. The Stafford R.A.F. base sent over 1,000 blankets and bedding and Whittington Army base supplied food and cooks.
